BarCamp GR
Though BarCamp GR is an event and not a code or even a design, it may be the accomplishment of which I am most proud.
The Introductory Session
Dave Brondsema (on the left) and I co-organized the first BarCamp GR in 2006. We were tired of the tech cities (Palo Alto, Austin, Seattle, etc.) have all the fun and the unconference concept seemed somewhat do-able.
The Logo
Creating a logo was one of the first tasks I undertook once we started organizing. I played around with several options for Grand Rapids' icon, but then I noticed that La Grande Vitesse could stand in for both the "m" and the "A" above it. Sometimes a design just comes together.
BarCamp GR 4
BarCamp is best experienced first-hand, so in 2009 I made a video to help provide a taste of that experience.
The Registration Table
Now, over a decade later, BarCamp GR is still going strong. The event is a staple of the local technology scene, thanks to the tireless efforts of many volunteers.
Lightning Talks
Indeed, the event has outlived my active involvement, which is perhaps one of the most satisfying aspects. Now I get to stand off to the side, cheer it on, and watch as others contribute their time, creativity, and energy.
